Treatment begins with 2.5 mg once weekly. This introductory strength is used for the first 4 weeks to help your body gradually adjust to the medication.
After completing the 2.5 mg phase, the dose is usually increased to 5 mg once weekly. This strength is taken for 4 weeks before progressing further.
For more support, your assigned physician may increase your dose to 7.5 mg once weekly. After another 4-week period, they will decide whether another increase is appropriate.
Need more than 7.5 mg? The next step is 10 mg once weekly. This dose is typically taken for 4 weeks before deciding whether to increase it again.
If lower doses are well tolerated and greater efficacy is needed, the dose may be increased to 12.5 mg once weekly. This level is taken for 4 weeks before moving to the highest strength, if appropriate.
The highest dose, typically prescribed when all other doses are well tolerated, but greater efficacy is needed.
How It Works
Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide, a once weekly injectable medication that activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Mounjaro® mimics these natural hormones involved in blood sugar control, appetite signals, and digestion.
Mounjaro® increases insulin when blood sugar is high, lowers glucagon, and slows how quickly food leaves the stomach. These actions can help you feel full longer after meals and support steadier eating habits.
Mounjaro® is administered once weekly and is available in several dose strengths. Treatment starts low and increases gradually to allow your body to adjust.
Typical dosing progression:
Doses are increased in four-week intervals to allow your body to adapt and assess how well you tolerate each step.
Mounjaro® is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week. It can be taken with or without food, and the time of day does not matter.
If you miss a dose, take it within four days. If more than four days have passed, skip the missed dose and take your next dose on schedule.
If you also use insulin, the two injections must be given separately and never mixed.
Mounjaro® commonly affects the digestive system, especially during dose increases. Many effects lessen as your body adjusts.
Common reactions include:
More serious but less common effects can include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney issues related to dehydration, and allergic reactions.
Seek medical attention if you experience any concerning or persistent side effects.
Because Mounjaro® slows stomach emptying, some oral medications may not be absorbed as effectively. Make sure your healthcare provider knows everything you take, including prescriptions, supplements, and over-the-counter products.
The following medications can interact with Mounjaro®:
85% of participants taking tirzepatide achieved 5% or more weight reduction. (Source).
HOW IT WORKS

A licensed clinician partnered with Treat Me Now will review your medical history and preferences to create your treatment plan. Most reviews are completed within 24 hours of finishing step 1, and the consultation process is completely free.
Ordering Mounjaro® from a trusted telehealth platform like TreatMeNow is a safe and efficient way to access treatment from home. Your information is handled confidentially, and the process is designed to make getting started simple and stress-free.
If you forget a dose and it has been four days or less since your last dose, take it as soon as you remember and continue with your regular weekly schedule. If more than four days have passed, skip the missed dose and wait until your next planned injection day.
Mounjaro® should not be used during pregnancy. Because it stays in the body for a long time, it is recommended to stop treatment at least one month before trying to conceive.
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, speak with a healthcare provider before starting or continuing treatment.
Start by filling out a free online questionnaire. Your information will be reviewed, and if Mounjaro® is appropriate for you, a prescription can be issued.
